Experienced Devops Engineer (Manchester/Zürich)

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our team within the fintech sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud infrastructure, specifically Azure, and container orchestration using Kubernetes. With proficiency in Terraform and CICD pipelines, you will play a crucial role in automating and streamlining our operations and processes. The idea candidate will either be in the UK Midlands/Manchester area or be locatedin/near to Zürich, Switzerland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement software integrations based on user feedback.
  • Implement automation tools and frameworks (CI/CD pipelines).
  • Collaborate with the development team to establish DevOps practices.
  • Maintain and deploy highly available, scalable server solutions using Kubernetes.
  • Manage code deployments, fixes, updates, and related processes.
  • Work with open-source technologies as needed.
  • Handle code deployments in all environments.
  • Monitor metrics and develop ways to improve.
  • Provide technical guidance and educate team members and coworkers on development and operations.
  • Work within a team to build and maintain high-performance, fault-tolerant, scalable distributed software systems.
  • Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement.
  • Support services before they go live through activities such as system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
  • Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health.

Required Technical Skills and Proficiency Levels:

  • Kubernetes: High proficiency, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience.
  • Ansible: Basic knowledge, with some experience in automation scripting.
  • Docker: High proficiency, comfortable with containerization and orchestration.
  • Terraform: High proficiency, capable of writing and maintaining infrastructure as code with minimal supervision.
  • Azure: High proficiency, with extensive experience in Azure cloud services and management.
  • Bash/Python: Medium proficiency in scripting for automation and integration.
  • Monitoring Tools: Medium proficiency with tools like Grafana, Elasticsearch, or Azure Monitoring.
  • CICD Pipelines: High proficiency, with strong experience in GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
  • Mongo/Postgres/MySQL: Medium proficiency, able to manage and troubleshoot database issues.
  • Load Balancers: Medium proficiency with Azure Load Balancer, Nginx, and similar technologies.
  • Firewalls: Medium proficiency, understanding network security and best practices.
  • Linux: High proficiency, with strong command-line and system administration skills.
  • Java/Node.js: Medium proficiency in configuring, building, and diagnosing application issues.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Argo CD/Flux is a plus.
  • Familiarity with financial systems or fintech environments.
  • You have an understanding of the complexity and the assumptions that a multi-instance SaaS setup (one instance per customer) brings.

Additional Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a DevOps role, preferably in the fintech industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with high proficiency areas and to seek assistance proactively when needed.
  • Excellent problem-solving and teamwork skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Must have a sense of humour.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

Work Environment:

  • If you’re in Switzerland we come to the office (Zurich) 2 days a week
  • If you’re in the UK we come to the office (Manchester) 1-2 days per month
  • English speaking
